Narrative Fiction

Stars Above

Please enjoy this original choose-your-own-adventure game written and designed by Baker. The game was built on Twine, and utilizes branching narrative fiction to create a compelling story.

27 Days

“Day 5—Late, maybe. Or very early?

The worst part about this place is the silence. I haven’t heard a single human voice since I got here. The guards don’t even talk to each other.”

Home Entertainment

“None of us has ever been outside. In fact, I’m not sure I believe that anything exists outside the house. It doesn’t really matter though. We’re happy here. We have everything we need.”

Short Film Treatment

“A coworker of hers approaches and asks Joan if she’d like to go out for drinks afterwards with some of the others. Joan jumps when the woman starts speaking, and quickly makes up an excuse about how busy she is. The scene then cuts to Joan entering her small, sparsely decorated apartment. She is seen triple-checking the locks, and she spends the night alone on her couch.”

Feature Film Treatment

“There is a brief montage of Robert driving his boat around the bay, looking at the sunset while the dark storm clouds continue to brew. He speeds along the water, his boat leaving a perfect wake behind him. His phone rings multiple times, every call coming from “Home.” Robert frowns and ignores all the calls, but at last begins to steer home as dusk falls and a fog begins to roll in ahead of the storm.”

ROBERT
(Once again rearranging things and preparing to leave)
Lori stopped trying to stop me a long time ago. It’s easier this way. I’m a happier husband when I can come back home after a day away from her.

THOMAS
I guess. Though there are worse ways to spend an evening than to be curled up next to the woman who loves you.”
